While the weather is changing quickly and the winter holidays will soon be upon us, there’s no reason to stay cooped up in the house, especially with all that’s available to see and do in Chicagoland. See our list below to learn more about November 2017 activities in Chicagoland for older adults!
At 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12, the Auditorium Theatre celebrates the 50th anniversary of its re-opening with “A Golden Celebration of Dance.” A one-night-only presentation, the show features the best dancers from the world’s premier dance companies, including American Ballet Theatre, Dutch National Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, New York City Ballet, Parsons Dance, San Francisco Ballet, and Vienna State Ballet, just to name a few. The mixed repertory program celebrates the past, present, and future of the Auditorium Theatre. To learn more and order tickets, please click HERE.
See a movie in one of the most interesting older theaters located in the Chicago suburbs. The Tivoli Theatre in downtown Downers Grove opened its doors on Christmas Day, 1928. Aficionados of architecture will appreciate the building’s beautiful French-Renaissance style. Beyond its old-fashioned looks, the theater sports a state-of-the-art 4K digital picture and sound presentation. With the cost of admission being only $5 a ticket, you can’t beat the price! Do you appreciate older automobiles that have a good amount of “vroom-vroom”? If so, the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is for you! This event features some of the rarest, most significant, first generation Pontiac Firebirds and Chevrolet Camaros. It’s also a chance to see General Motors F-Bodies built between 1967-1969. Many of these cars are seldom available to be seen by the public. The show takes place on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at , at the Donald E. Stevens Convention Center in Rosemont. To learn more about the event, click HERE.
On Friday, Nov. 3 through Sunday, Nov. 5, you can immerse yourself (pun totally intended) in the Aquatic Experience at the Schaumburg Convention Center. You’ll see everything aquatic under one roof: freshwater and saltwater fish, crustaceans, marine plants, and marine mammals (even sea lions)! Aquariums with fish from around the world and “touch tanks” — where you can touch the marine life — will be on display. Home aquarium enthusiasts will love the experience! To learn more, click HERE!
Enjoy arts and crafts? Then check out the Autumn Festival, an Arts & Crafts Affair, which takes place at the Odeum Expo Center from Thursday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 19. Voted as one of the top 100 shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine, the event features over 500 artists and crafters from 30 states. Register to win a $30 gift certificate! Senior admission is just $8, and there’s free parking. For times and tickets, click HERE.
