August 2019 Denver Area Activities for Older Adults

Denver Gold Dome Capitol

It’s August and in the Denver area, that means we are deep into the heat of summertime! Of course, along with the summer temps comes lots of things to do, both inside and out! Denver and its surrounding suburbs are always full of activities, events, and venues that everyone, including seniors, can enjoy. So, as we like to do every month, Care & Comfort at Home presents just a few of the August 2019 Denver area activities for older adults!

You live in or around Denver, but… how well do you really know your city? The Denver City Sightseeing Tour gives you a chance to get to know the Mile High City better than ever! The tour travels via bus or minivan and lasts about three hours. During that time, you’ll find out more about the city’s history while you visit attractions such as Denver’s U.S. Mint, the gold-domed State Capitol, and the Denver Art Museum. Please note that the tour is not wheelchair accessible. To learn more, including pickup locations and times of operation, call Gray Line at 303-289-2841 or click HERE.

To go or not to go? There is no question! For anyone who has a love for Shakespearean plays, then Colorado’s 62nd Shakespeare Fest needs to be on the “to do” calendar. Featured plays include Twelfth Night, As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, and King John.  The fest runs until August 11 at the University of Colorado Boulder’s performing arts theater. Dates depend on each particular performance and vary, so you’ll want to click HERE to learn more.

If you’d like to head outside this August, a great spot to check out is Englewood’s Museum of Outdoor Arts. Described by one visitor as “small and delightfully strange,” the museum displays a collection of sculptures at Marjorie Park on the north side of Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre and also another collection at the Englewood Civic Center. For more information about what the museum has to offer, times, and locations, please visit their website by clicking HERE.

Need to cool off this August? A great place to do so is the swim beach at Bear Creek Lake Park. Along with swimming, the 2,624-acre park offers opportunities to hike, picnic, boat, and fish as well. Day passes for seniors age 62 and older are just $5. For more information click HERE.

Experience a taste of Europe, without leaving Colorado! Cafe Prague offers flavorful European-inspired cuisine, such as beef goulash, wiener schnitzel, roast duck, and apple strudel. While the interior fireplace is warm and inviting, you might rather dine this August on their outside patio. Cafe Prague is also one of the highest rated restaurants in Morrison on both TripAdvisor and Yelp. Why not find out what all the buzz is about? Click HERE to visit their website and learn more.
