Holiday fun

The holiday season has arrived! And so have lots of holiday-themed activities and events in Denver and its surrounding suburbs that everyone, including seniors, will love. We at Care & Comfort at Home have found quite a few that we would like to share with you! So please check out our list of December 2019 Denver Area activities for older adults. Enjoy! And may you and your loved ones have very happy holidays!

From now until Monday, Dec. 23, Skyline Park becomes an old-world German village at Christmas time, thanks to the Denver Christkindl Market! There you’ll experience an authentic German holiday market, complete with wooden vendor huts, festive music, and even a German Bier Hall. You’ll find all sorts of gifts in the form of arts and crafts, as well as baked goods and other delicious German delicacies. Admission into the market is free. Click HERE to learn more information.

On Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 7 p.m., head over to the Golden History Museum for an enjoyable Candlelight Walk to get into the holiday mood. Try some roasted chestnuts, and warm up inside the Perarce/Helps Cabin with help from its wood stove. There will be holiday music and singing for entertainment. You can even witness live blacksmithing! Many original buildings from the Pearce Ranch in Golden Gate Canyons can be found on site at History Park. The entire event is free — however, donations are accepted. For more information, please click HERE.

On Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 5:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 8:30 p.m., enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays at Lakewood Lights 2019. There will be a tree lighting ceremony on Friday at 5:45 p.m. Take an old-fashioned wagon ride, and enjoy tasty roasted chestnuts with a cup of hot chocolate. There will be a Hanukkah dreidel to spin, and of course, Santa Claus will be on hand as well. From Friday, Nov. 29 until Sunday, Dec. 22, the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield Farms transform into a magical Christmas town! Santa’s Village is full of charming little cottages that sparkle with holiday lights and decorations. Step inside a giant snow globe! Be sure to stop at Elf Boulevard to drop off any letters to Santa and see elfs’ workshop. And don’t forget to take a hayride before you watch a short film at Santa’s Cinema. The event has tons of fun for all ages! For more information, just click HERE.

At Noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, the 2019 Christmas Carriage Parade celebrates the holiday season as it proceeds through downtown Parker. You’ll see dozens of carriages, wagons, surreys, stagecoaches — all pulled by horses! The equestrians hail from various locations across Colorado, and they’ll come dressed up for event in their holiday finest! While you are at the parade, be sure to also check out the farmer’s market.
