Ah…. February! Thanks to Feb. 14 being Valentine’s Day, this is the month when romance is in the air! We here at Care & Comfort at Home decided to focus on that loving feeling as we searched for some of the most enjoyable activities, venues, and events for seniors in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. So get ready for love! Here’s our list of February 2020 Chicagoland activities for older adults!

 

 

Chicago

What could be more romantic than lunch or dinner on one of Chicago’s spectacular waterways? Enjoy a meal on the river or on the lake, thanks to Valentine Weekend Cruises by Odyssey. You have three choices: dinner on the Chicago River, or lunch or dinner on Lake Michigan. These cruises set sail on Saturday, Feb. 14 and Sunday Feb. 15. You’ll enjoy a private table, complete with incredible views of Chicago’s famed architecture and skyline. Dinners are a three-course meal. Lunch is a buffet. Elmhurst

Dinner is always a romantic notion… But it’s even more romantic when it has the old-time ambiance of DuPage County’s oldest continuously owned restaurant: Mack’s Golden Pheasant. This classic establishment has been serving customers since 1948. Sit beside the warmth of the see-through fireplace, while you enjoy superb American dishes, such as seafood, steaks, and burgers, along with Czech cuisine. Glencoe

Nothing says “I love you” like flowers, and orchids are among the most beautiful. You can get your fill of gorgeous orchids (and stay out of February’s biting winter chill) by attending “Brilliance: The Orchid Show” at the Chicago Botanic Garden. The show starts on Saturday, Feb. 8 and continues through the entire month of February from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. The Garden’s Regenstein Center will be overflowing with orchids, as 10,000 blooms will be on display. Come by on a Saturday or Sunday during February to be able to buy orchids for yourself or your sweetheart to enjoy at home. Tickets are discounted for seniors age 62 years and up. Naperville

Sullivan’s Steakhouse is presenting a special menu for Valentine’s Day! On both Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15, the “Love at First Bite Menu” features three-course prix fixe meal. Start with a choice of salad or soup. For your entree, you can choose between several cuts of steak, chicken, or fish. Pick a side dish from choices including cream-style spinach, garlic horseradish mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. Finish off your meal by choosing a delectable dessert, such as bananas foster bread pudding, New York-style cheesecake, or key lime pie. Dancing cheek to cheek is so romantic! But if you have two left feet, sometimes it’s better to watch others dance. You can do just that by enjoying the performance of “Dancing with the Stars: Live” on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Rosemont Theatre.
