If you dwell on the negative side of things, you might say to yourself, “What’s so great about being older?” Even if you don’t think so, there are some benefits in being a senior — and a one big benefit of being an older adult is the savings you get to enjoy. Many establishments and vendors offer discounts on their products and services to people who are over a certain age — sometimes as young as 50. There are lots of ways to save money simply because you are older! We here at Care & Comfort at Home have pulled together a list of just some of the many 2019 discounts that help older adults save money*!
Discounted (or FREE!) coffee
There are many fast-food restaurants that offer discounted and even FREE coffee to seniors. Here are just some of the brands that tend to have discounted (or free) coffee for older adults:
- Burger King
- Jack in the Box
- Carl’s Jr.**
**Carl’s Jr. goes a step further, as most of its locations offer people age 55 and older a 10 percent discount on any food they purchase, not just on coffee!
In reading this list, however, do keep in mind that these are all independently owned franchises. Some offer free coffee. Some offer discounted prices on their coffee. And, while most do participate, sadly, a few don’t participate at all. And at each location, the qualifying ages differ as well. So you should call ahead to ask if your local restaurants extend any sort of senior discount and if so, how it works.
Stein Mart is a discount department store, featuring clothings, accessories, and home goods. On the first Monday of each month, customers age 55 and older enjoy an additional 20 percent off “Red Dot” and clearance merchandise at participating Stein Mart stores. You can visit their website by clicking HERE to contact the location closest to you and confirm the discount.
Rite Aid’s Wellness65+ Program
The drug store Rite Aid has a free program for seniors age 65 and older — the Wellness 65+ Program. Benefits include 20 percent off all items that are NOT a prescription on the first Wednesday of the month. The program also includes a FREE consultation with a pharmacist. During this consultation, the pharmacist will review your medicines, go over your immunization needs, and answer any questions you might have about Medicare Part D. It’s also an opportunity to receive a FREE blood pressure screening and learn about other free pharmacy services that Rite Aid offers. The program includes a point system as well, which can be used to gain additional rewards/savings. To learn more about the program, click HERE.
Ace Hardware — a hardware and home improvement retailer — has participating locations that offer seniors a 10 percent discount.
